King of Diamonds by Ben Rosenzweig

King of Diamonds

by Ben Rosenzweig
Ben Rosenzweig · 2014 · Paperback

King of Diamonds began as an editorial photography assignment at Miami's King of Diamonds strip club and was reshaped by Ben Rosenzweig into a self-published artist's book.

Working afterward with an art director friend, Rosenzweig re-edited and re-sequenced the material away from its original editorial context, producing a small, perfect-bound paperback of roughly 32 pages issued in a numbered edition of 100. The book circulated through independent photobook venues, including Dashwood Books, Printed Matter in New York, and Colette in Paris, and a selection of its images was recognized in the American Photography 31 annual.

Rosenzweig is a New York-based photographer whose editorial and personal work often turns commercial or documentary assignments into more open-ended, self-authored projects. King of Diamonds is an example of that process, a commissioned shoot recast as an independently published book.
