Editions 1959-1999

by Edward Ruscha
Enberg/Walker Arts Center · 1999 · Hardcover, 2 volumes in slipcase

Editions 1959-1999 is the two-volume catalogue raisonne of Edward Ruscha's prints, artists' books, and other editioned work. The Walker Art Center published it in 1999; curator Siri Engberg organized it.

Volume one reproduces the editions themselves: prints, books, and miscellaneous multiples. Its figure numbers key to the catalogue entries in volume two, which carries essays by Engberg and Clive Phillpot along with full entries, provenance, and exhibition history for each work. The two hardcover volumes are housed together in a slipcase. The accompanying exhibition opened at the Walker Art Center in June 1999 and traveled on to the Los Angeles County Museum of Art and the University of South Florida's Contemporary Art Museum.

Ruscha's editions are as central to his reputation as his paintings. They stretch from early artist's books like Twentysix Gasoline Stations through decades of screenprints and lithographs, and this catalogue raisonne remains the standard reference for that side of his work.
