Tell Me When You Re Ready - Works From 1990-1995
Tell Me When You’re Ready: Works from 1990–1995 gathers five years of work by Julia Scher, an artist whose subject is video surveillance.
PFM Publishers issued it in 2002 as a 224-page, square-format hardcover. Scher’s solo exhibitions in those years include Security Site Visits at the Walker Art Center (1990), Buffalo Under Surveillance at Hallwalls (1992) and Don’t Worry at the Kölnischer Kunstverein (1994).
Scher was born in Hollywood, California, in 1954 and lives and works in Cologne. Her gallery biography describes her as emerging in the mid-1980s as a precise but playful analyst of social and technological change. It adds that she has worked with video surveillance for more than 40 years. In 1995 and 1996 she taught a Surveillance Studies class at the Massachusetts College of Art, described there as the first in the United States.
