Pul Ke Niche

Nick Sethi's Pul Ke Niche is a saturated, flash-driven photographic diary of the artist's travels through India, its title translating roughly as "under the bridge."

Shot on point-and-shoot cameras with hard on-camera flash, the book moves without hierarchy between street scenes, festival crowds, roadside stalls, animals and interiors, building a dense, saturated portrait of everyday life rather than a travelogue of monuments. Sethi's approach favors proximity and immersion over distance: subjects look directly into the lens, colors run hot and unfiltered, and the sequencing has the loose, accumulative rhythm of a diary rather than a planned essay. The book was produced through Dashwood Books, the New York photobook shop and publisher closely associated with Sethi's early work.

Sethi is an American photographer known for an immersive, high-contact documentary style developed largely in India. Pul Ke Niche preceded his later book Khichdi (Kitchari), also held in this collection, and the two form a sustained body of work returning to the same terrain over successive trips.
