Training for the Future Handbook
A handbook of the Training for the Future camps, in which audiences become trainees who pre-enact alternative futures and reclaim the means of production of the future.
It gathers training manuals, interviews and documentation from the camps held between 2018 and 2021. One of them ran at the Ruhrtriennale in Bochum in September 2019, with a faculty of futurologists, hackers, activists and theatre makers who each offered exercises in answering present-day crises. Contributors include Public Movement, Women on Waves, Not An Alternative, Irational, Army of Love and the Laboratory of Insurrectionary Imagination. Remco van Bladel designed the book, which has 320 pages with 118 black-and-white and 86 colour illustrations.
Jonas Staal is a visual artist whose work deals with art, propaganda and democracy. He founded New World Summit and wrote Propaganda Art in the 21st Century. Florian Malzacher is a performing-arts curator, dramaturge and writer, and the author of Truth Is Concrete. The two co-direct the camp.
