Walking

Walking gathers Thomas Struth's photographs of people in motion through public space, extending the artist's long study of how cities structure the bodies that move through them.

Published by Ivorypress in a perfect-bound paperback edition of 101 pages, the book sequences images of pedestrians, streets, and urban thresholds without the didactic framing of Struth's museum retrospectives, letting the act of walking itself carry the book's structure.

Struth, a member of the generation trained under Bernd and Hilla Becher at the Düsseldorf Academy, is best known for his large-scale photographs of city streets, museum interiors, and family portraits; Walking sits alongside smaller, more direct bodies of work that circle back to the street photography underlying his larger architectural series.
