Night into Day / De Nuit en Jour

American artist Sarah Sze (b. 1969) exhibited her first solo show at the Fondation Cartier pour l'art contemporain at the turn of the millennium; two decades later she returned to Jean Nouvel's building with two new sculptures made for the occasion, the subject of this catalogue.

The sculptures explore how the contemporary proliferation of images, via print and pixel, from deep space to the deep web, changes our relationship to time, memory and the physical presence of objects. Designed in close collaboration with the artist and issued with 48 different covers, the 208-page paperback documents the execution of Sze's installation and includes an essay by philosopher Bruno Latour, a conversation between Sze and Nouvel, and an essay by exhibition curator Leanne Sacramone. Published bilingually in French and English by the Fondation Cartier pour l'art contemporain, Paris, in 2020.

Sze works across sculpture, drawing and installation, building accumulations of everyday objects into structures that examine perception, scale and the passage of time; this catalogue documents her second engagement with the Fondation Cartier's exhibition spaces, twenty years after her first.
