A photographic record of the Million Mask March, the annual November 5th street action held in the name of the hacktivist collective Anonymous, by the photographer Anthony Tafuro.
Tafuro followed the march from 2013 to 2017, the years in which thousands gathered in cities around the world for it. He photographed masked participants in the street and in the meetings and gatherings held around the demonstrations, and the pictures run alongside a short history of Guy Fawkes and of the stylised mask that became the group's public face. The cover carries the Anonymous emblem, a headless suit before a globe and laurel wreath, on a green ground. 160 pages, hardcover, published by powerHouse Books, Brooklyn, in 2018.
Tafuro photographs subcultures that keep their faces hidden. His earlier book for the same publisher, BA. KU.: Kult Skating / Dark Rituals (2015), documented the Barrier Kult, a masked skateboarding crew. Anonymous: Million Masks carries that interest in concealed identity into political protest. It sits in the Surveillance Index as a document of the mask as disguise and as shared signal in public space.
Notes
Publisher page gives title, author, pub date 2018-07-10, trim 7-1/4 x 8-3/4 in, 160 pp, ISBN 9781576878651, and the blurb; it does not state binding. Hardcover comes from the OpenLibrary edition record (OL27355781M, sourced from Amazon/BWB/Columbia MARC) and matches the publisher's product shot. height_cm/width_cm are the publisher's inch trim converted (8.75 x 7.25 in); the page lists trim as W x H per powerHouse convention, so height 22.2 / width 18.4 is an inference; the flat cover image's 1275x1500 aspect (0.85) matches 7.25/8.75 (0.83), which confirms portrait orientation. LC class TR655 .T34 2018 and OCLC 990850767 are from OpenLibrary, not a direct LOC/WorldCat lookup. anthonytafuro.com now serves gambling spam (domain hijacked), so no official site is set; authors[0].url left null. Cover installed is the flat front-cover image from the publisher page gallery (9781576878651_1.jpg, 1275x1500) rather than the featured 3D product shot with drop shadow (Anonymous-1.jpg); the front board carries only the emblem, the title is on the spine. BA. KU. facts (Barrier Kult, masked skate crew, powerHouse 2015) come from the OpenLibrary listing plus general knowledge; the powerHouse BA. KU. page 404s at /books/ba-ku/.
