Audrey Tan's first photobook and solo exhibition catalog, made to mark her return to Singapore after years in London, uses portraiture and self-portraiture to trace connection, isolation, and belonging. The images, made over roughly seven years, function as a personal record of her time abroad and double as a study of the self under observation, portraits and self-portraits that turn the camera into both witness and mirror. Tan frames the work as an examination of self-surveillance within a metropolitan setting, the quiet visibility and invisibility of a person moving through a crowded city, hiding, as the book's own framing has it, in plain sight. It was published in a limited edition of 200 copies to accompany her first solo exhibition in Singapore. Tan's related work in this period was also recognized by the International Photography Awards.
