Toilet Paper (Deluxe Volume)
Freedman Damiani
· 2012
A collected volume of Toilet Paper, the wordless artists' magazine that Maurizio Cattelan and Pierpaolo Ferrari began in 2010.
The volume gathers issues 1 to 5 in one book, published by Freedman Damiani in 2012. The pictures borrow the lighting and finish of commercial photography and use them for staged, surreal tableaux. The magazine itself prints no text.
Cattelan (b. 1960) is the Italian artist whose 2011 retrospective at the Guggenheim Museum in New York was followed by his announced retirement from art, after which he turned to the magazine. He had earlier made the magazines Permanent Food and Charley. Ferrari is a fashion and advertising photographer who began working with L'Uomo Vogue in 2007.
