Photo Book (s)
Photo Book(s) collects the photography of the Dutch artist Daan van Golden, better known as a painter, by reproducing the photo pages of his earlier books in full.
Emiliano Battista and Van Golden edited the volume, Battista wrote its text, and Van Golden is credited as designer. Most of the books it draws on have long been out of print, and it adds two little-known photo essays, also reproduced in their entirety. The book works by repetition: a core set of images and gestures returns throughout, and new juxtapositions between them open new readings. It also records how the pictures were used over the years. Walther König is named as publisher of the 416-page softcover.
Van Golden (1936–2017) lived and worked in Schiedam in the Netherlands. His solo exhibitions include Wiels in Brussels (2012), Greene Naftali in New York (2016) and Museum Boijmans Van Beuningen in Rotterdam (2017), and the Art Institute of Chicago, the Stedelijk Museum in Amsterdam and Boijmans Van Beuningen hold his work. Greene Naftali also lists Apperception (Wiels, 2012) and Red or Blue (Camden Art Centre, 2009) among his publications.
