The Logic of Images: Essays and Conversations by Wim Wenders

The Logic of Images: Essays and Conversations

by Wim Wenders
Faber and Faber · 1991 · Hardcover

A collection of essays and conversations in which the film director Wim Wenders writes about his own films, in Michael Hofmann's English translation.

The book gathers eighteen short critical pieces on film, most of them from the 1980s and most concerned with Wenders's own work. The films discussed include The Scarlet Letter, The American Friend, Kings of the Road, Tokyo-Ga, Paris, Texas and Wings of Desire. The German original, Die Logik der Bilder: Essays und Gespräche, came out from Verlag der Autoren in 1988. Faber and Faber issued Hofmann's translation in London in 1991.

Wenders was born in Düsseldorf in 1945 and studied at the film school in Munich from 1967. In 1971 he co-founded the Filmverlag der Autoren with other directors. Paris, Texas (1984) won the Palme d'Or at Cannes, and he took the Best Director prize there for Wings of Desire (1987). Since the early 1980s he has also kept up a photographic project, Pictures from the Surface of the Earth, of desolate landscapes.
