Jonas Wood

The first monograph devoted to Jonas Wood surveys the paintings that established him as one of the most closely watched figures in contemporary American painting.

Working from his own photographs, drawings and collages, Wood builds interiors, studio views, potted plants, and sports imagery into flattened, densely patterned compositions that compress perspective the way a collage does rather than a window onto space. The book, published in Phaidon's Contemporary Artists Series, brings together essays by curators Ian Alteveer and Helen Molesworth alongside a conversation with the painter Mark Grotjahn, situating Wood's paintings within the studio practice and working process behind them.

Wood emerged in the Los Angeles gallery scene in the 2000s and has since shown widely, including major presentations organized around the Karma and David Kordansky galleries and museum surveys; his wife, the ceramicist Shio Kusaka, is a frequent presence and subject in his domestic imagery. This survey remains the primary monographic reference on his work to date.
