Good Morning New York
Good Morning New York is Rita Ackermann's contribution to the Purple Books series, published by Purple Institute in 2006 as Purple Book #5 alongside Purple Fashion Magazine issue 6, Fall/Winter 2006-2007.
The 64-page, saddle-stitched quarto reproduces drawings, collages and painterly fragments from Ackermann's sketchbooks: layered figures and loose, diaristic marks centered on images of girls and women. Co-published with Janvier, the book was edited by Olivier Zahm.
Ackermann emerged from the downtown New York art scene of the 1990s, working in a fragmentary, sketchbook-based style tied to the era's nightlife and youth culture. Good Morning New York captures that practice in the informal, magazine-supplement format the Purple Books series used for artists across its run.
