Elvis

Elvis collects amateur photographs that fans took of Elvis Presley, assembling a portrait of the singer built entirely from other people's snapshots.

Published by Karma in 2014 in an edition of 500, the book reproduces found Polaroids and prints, including the cover image of Presley smiling from behind the wheel of a car, taken by fans rather than professional photographers. The informal, off-guard quality of the pictures stands apart from Presley's carefully managed public image. The 32-page softcover, roughly 10½ × 8 inches, presents them without captions or accompanying text.

The book extends Will Boone's practice of building work from found and vernacular photography, following Prison Rodeo (2014) and preceding Car (2016), both drawn from the same kind of amateur and archival source material.
