Horse Hunting by Michaël Borremans

Horse Hunting

by Michaël Borremans
David Zwirner · 2006 · Hardcover

Published by David Zwirner on the occasion of Michaël Borremans’s second solo exhibition at the gallery (New York, March 7 – April 1, 2006), this hardcover catalogue documents a body of fourteen new paintings, among them the eponymous Horse Hunting (2005), a portrait of a young, fashionably dressed man holding a twig to each nostril, whose deadpan strangeness is typical of the Belgian painter (b. 1963).

Borremans’s pictures pair old-master technique with disquieting, hard-to-place imagery, resisting straightforward narrative or interpretation. Illustrated boards, no dust jacket as issued, with sixteen color reproductions and a text by the Belgian artist and curator Hans van Heirseele. Printed by Earth Enterprise, New York.
