Paintings

by Michaël Borremans
Hatje Cantz · 2010

Paintings is Hatje Cantz's 2010 survey of the paintings of the Belgian artist Michaël Borremans, with an essay by Jeffrey Grove.

The paperback has 184 pages and 84 color plates, and a bookseller's listing calls it the first book to show all of Borremans's paintings. His figures are taken from pictures in magazines and scientific books and shown in activities that are hard to identify. The palette is mostly beige, brown and grey, with a brighter note breaking in now and then.

Borremans was born in 1963. He trained in photography and graphic design and turned to painting at thirty. His solo shows of paintings and films have been held at the Cleveland Museum of Art, David Zwirner in New York, La Maison Rouge in Paris, Gallery Koyanagi in Tokyo and the Kestner Gesellschaft in Hanover.
