Everything_1 by Kenta Cobayashi

Everything_1

by Kenta Cobayashi
Newfave · 2016 · Softcover

Everything_1 is Kenta Cobayashi's debut photobook, a hallucinatory index of glitched, layered images that redraws his native Tokyo as a shifting, screen-lit dreamscape.

Published by Newfave in 2016 in a signed edition of 500, the unnumbered 80-page softcover is bound with neon-orange elastic cord and offset-printed. Roughly ninety heavily layered color images, assembled from iPhone photographs, MacBook webcam stills, screen captures, and photo-booth strips, depict Cobayashi's circle of friends digitally warped into a nearly abstract, hallucinogenic register somewhere between the futuristic and the corrupted.

Cobayashi (b. 1992) treats Everything as an ongoing project, first developed as a daily photo blog before taking book form here and later in the 2020 sequel Everything_2. The book helped establish his reputation for genre-defying, glitch-driven photography that has since informed advertising and collaborative work for Louis Vuitton and Dunhill.
