For Now
"For Now" gathers previously unseen William Eggleston photographs found by filmmaker Michael Almereyda during a year spent searching the artist's archive, an unusual look at Eggleston's private world of family and friends rather than the public scenes he is best known for.
The pictures span four decades of Eggleston's career and share an offhand intimacy his more famous work rarely shows. Twin Palms Publishers issued the book in 2010 to coincide with the retrospective "William Eggleston: Democratic Camera, Photographs and Video, 1961-2008" at the Los Angeles County Museum of Art. Almereyda designed the volume with Jack Woody and contributed one of its essays, alongside texts by Lloyd Fonvielle, Greil Marcus, and Amy Taubin, plus an interview with Eggleston conducted by Kristine McKenna.
Eggleston established color photography as a serious art form with his 1976 solo show at MoMA, curated by John Szarkowski, after decades of the medium being dismissed as commercial. Almereyda is a filmmaker who directed the 2005 documentary "William Eggleston in the Real World."
