Arthur Elgort: Camera Crazy
Camera Crazy is a 2004 photobook by the American fashion photographer Arthur Elgort, published by Edition 7L in association with Steidl.
The hardcover volume pairs Elgort's photographs with text by Joan Elgort. It followed two earlier Elgort books built around his working life, Arthur Elgort's Models Manual (1993) and Camera Ready: How to Shoot Your Kids (1997).
Elgort, born in Brooklyn in 1940, made his reputation with a 1971 spread in British Vogue that introduced a loose, on-the-move "snapshot" style shot in natural light, a departure from the static studio fashion photography of the time. He went on to shoot for Vogue, Glamour, GQ, Rolling Stone, and Teen Vogue, and to photograph advertising campaigns for Chanel, Valentino, and Yves Saint Laurent. His photographs are held in the permanent collections of the International Center of Photography, the Victoria and Albert Museum, and the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston.
