Langt Fran Stockholm (Far from Stockholm)
Långt från Stockholm (Far from Stockholm) follows JH Engström out of the city and into small communities and open country in Sweden.
Mörel describes the book as a journey that moves between isolated small communities and the wilderness of the Swedish landscape. Portraits of dance bands and young people share the pages with frozen rivers, forests and roads that recede out of sight. Mörel published it as a 128-page hardcover in a limited edition of 1,000 copies, at 24 by 31.5 centimetres.
Engström was born in Karlstad in 1969 and is based in Paris. He assisted Mario Testino in Paris and Anders Petersen in Stockholm, then studied at the University of Gothenburg, graduating in 1997. His book Trying to Dance (2004) was shortlisted for the Deutsche Börse Photography Prize in 2005, and Haunts followed in 2006. Aperture published his Sketch of Paris in 2013.
