Polyurethane Sculptures

by Peter Fischli & David Weiss
Walther König · 2014

Polyurethane Sculptures is a paperback of 140 hand-carved, hand-painted objects by Peter Fischli and David Weiss, each shown on its own page.

Fischli edited and sequenced the book, which Walther König in Cologne and Matthew Marks Gallery co-published in 2014. It has 144 pages and 146 colour images. The objects imitate humble things such as power tools, coffee cups, stained paintbrushes, buckets and shipping pallets, carved and painted with almost, but not quite, machine-like precision. The publishers say they overturn the notion of the readymade. The fold-out cover shows the sculptures as they are exhibited, in arrangements that recall the disarray of a workshop or an artist's studio.

Fischli (born 1952) and Weiss (1946–2012) worked together as a duo. Matthew Marks Gallery lists this book among their artist's books, with Suddenly this Overview (1982), Visible World (2000) and Will Happiness Find Me? (2003).
