Goodbye, World! Looking at Art in the Digital Age

by Omar Kholeif
Sternberg Press · 2018 · Softcover

A curator's argument that art made and seen in a networked world has to be looked at differently.

Sternberg Press published the 212-page paperback in 2018. Kholeif asks how life and art have changed in the twenty-first century. He treats the internet as a replacement for older ways of picturing the world. John Berger's Ways of Seeing and Alvin Toffler's Future Shock are his stated inspirations. The text mixes memoir with critical analysis of image perception, technology and post-digital practice. It has 195 colour illustrations and was designed by Zak Group.

Kholeif is an Egyptian-born curator and writer. He has worked at the Whitechapel Gallery, HOME Manchester and the Museum of Contemporary Art Chicago, and later directed collections at the Sharjah Art Foundation. The book follows You Are Here: Art After the Internet (2014). Art in the Age of Anxiety (2021) and Internet_Art (2023) came after it.
