Trigger

Die Gestalten Verlag · 1999 · Softcover

A snapshot of late-1990s graphic design from Berlin's Die Gestalten Verlag, gathered from the studios the publisher met while researching its club-flyer survey Flyermania.

Trigger collects logos, corporate identities, flyers and print typefaces rather than finished campaigns, and presents them as a working reference for designers handling fast-changing visual codes. The contributors map the scene the publisher grew out of: The Designers Republic, eBoy, km7, DED Associates, Stylorouge, Stefan Sagmeister, Kim Hiorthøy, Marok, Büro Destruct, François Chalet, Dextro, Eike König, Dirk Rudolph, Stefan Gandl, Sweden Graphics, Surface, Function, Maia Gusberti and Peter Christopherson among them, with the full list printed down the cover. Two hundred pages, softcover, English, published in 1999 and edited by Robert Klanten with Hendrik Hellige and Michael Mischler.

Klanten co-founded Die Gestalten in 1995 with Markus Hollmann-Loges and Andreas Peyerl after designing flyers, posters and record sleeves for the Berlin techno scene and the Love Parade; the publisher's early compilations, Trigger among them, set the format its later design surveys followed.
