Drowning Girl Sticker

A die-cut sticker of Roy Lichtenstein's Drowning Girl (1963), the comic-book painting now in the Museum of Modern Art, produced by the Brooklyn studio Apply and sold by the Whitney Museum shop.

Screen-printed on metallic poly and die-cut to the image, the sticker measures 3.5 by 3.5 inches. It reproduces the painting's weeping figure and speech balloon ("I don't care! I'd rather sink than call Brad for help!"), which Lichtenstein cropped from a panel in the DC romance comic Secret Hearts. Apply made it under license from the Estate of Roy Lichtenstein as part of a set of four Lichtenstein stickers. The Whitney stocked the set in 2026 ahead of its retrospective Roy Lichtenstein: Like New (October 11, 2026 to May 10, 2027), in which the painting is shown.

Lichtenstein (1923-1997) arrived at his signature manner in 1961: subjects lifted from comic strips and advertisements, painted in flat colour with hand-drawn Benday dots. By 1964 he was among the most recognised and most contested of the Pop artists. The Whitney holds 460 of his works, including the Roy Lichtenstein Study Collection given by the artist's foundation.
