Framing Bodies draws on the Hasselblad Foundation's collection to present photographs by fifteen photographers, among them Walker Evans, Nan Goldin, Ernest Cole, Annika von Hausswolff, and Adriana Lestido, spanning from the late nineteenth century to the present. Edited by Dragana Vujanović and Louise Wolthers and published by Art and Theory Publishing in Stockholm in 2015, the book considers how photographs of the body in private and public space register surveillance, transgression, labor conditions, and racial discrimination. Wolthers contributes a bilingual English/Swedish essay, 'Surveilling Bodies: Photography as Control, Critique and Concern,' situating the selected images within histories of photographic control and resistance. The publication followed an earlier Hasselblad Foundation collection exhibition series that included Still Life / Work Life (2013), and anticipated the Foundation's later surveillance-focused title Drone Vision: Warfare Surveillance Protest (2022).
