Choli Cholie

Choli Cholie collects photographs made by graduate students at ECAL, the University of Art and Design Lausanne, during a 2014-15 workshop led by the Swiss photographer Walter Pfeiffer, and stands as a collective homage to his sensibility rather than a monograph of his own pictures.

Rather than a technical class, Pfeiffer's workshop centered on exchanges about beauty, intuition, and the process of building an image from shoot to edit; the book's title, an allusion to a phrase of encouragement he repeated to students, gathers the resulting photographs, instinctive, spontaneous, and resistant to easy classification, into a tribute to his teaching. RVB Books published the softcover in Paris, 78 pages, 22 × 31 cm.

Pfeiffer, born in Zurich in 1946, has photographed queer and youth subcultures since the 1970s with a warmth and immediacy that shaped generations of Swiss and international photographers; Choli Cholie extends that influence directly into the work of a new one.
