Jon Rafman

The catalogue for Jon Rafman's first major solo exhibition in Britain, and a compact reader on an artist whose raw material is the residue the internet leaves behind.

Produced for the show at the Zabludowicz Collection, London, 8 October to 20 December 2015, the 132-page paperback carries 59 colour plates, texts by Kevin McGarry, Maitreyi Maheshwari and Ana Teixeira Pinto, and an interview between Rafman and the novelist Tom McCarthy. Maheshwari edited it, Mark Holt and Malcolm Southward designed it, and it was printed in an edition of 1,000. The exhibition, staged as the Zabludowicz Collection Annual Commission, turned the galleries into a sequence of enveloping video and sculptural installations built around desire and its simulation, and premiered Sticky Drama, Rafman's first live-action film, made with Daniel Lopatin, co-produced by Warp Records and cast largely with children.

Jon Rafman (b. 1981, Montreal) came to notice with Nine Eyes of Google Street View, the ongoing archive of images harvested from Google's camera cars, and has since worked through Second Life, virtual reality, 3D animation and found online video in projects including Kool-Aid Man in Second Life and Brand New Paint Job.
