Artists II by Jason Schmidt

Artists II

by Jason Schmidt
Steidl · 2015

Artists II is the second book of Jason Schmidt's portraits of artists, made in their studios and workplaces over a period of twelve years.

Steidl published it in September 2015 as a 180-page clothbound hardback in English, measuring 29.5 by 30 cm. It shows 166 artists, including John Baldessari, Ai Weiwei, Glenn Ligon and Cindy Sherman. Each portrait comes with a text written by the sitter. Steidl says some of these describe the sitting plainly and others are poetic or enigmatic. Alix Browne and Christopher Bollen edited the book.

Schmidt is a photographer and director in New York, born in 1969, who graduated from Columbia University in 1992 with a degree in art history. Steidl also published the first book, Artists, in 2007. His exhibitions of the series include Deitch Projects in New York (2007), the Margulies Collection in Miami (2008) and the Museum of Contemporary Art, Los Angeles (2012).
