Swoon
This exhibition catalog documents the early gallery career of Brooklyn street artist Swoon. Deitch Projects published it to accompany her fall 2008 show at the gallery's Long Island City project space.
The book covers Swoon's exhibitions from 2005 to 2007, starting with her first one-person show at Deitch Projects in 2005. It also documents collaborative projects she carried out in Russia, Ukraine and across the United States in that period. Text is by Jasmine Levett, who curated the accompanying exhibition.
Swoon, born Caledonia Curry, is known for wheat-pasted paper cutouts and hand-pulled block prints of figures drawn from everyday street life. She began installing this work around New York City in 1999 and has since shown at MoMA, the Brooklyn Museum and the Tate Modern. This catalog predates her 2010 Abrams monograph, which surveys the wider arc of her practice, including the Swimming Cities project and the Toyshop collective.
