Tom of Finland: Threesome by Tom of Finland

Tom of Finland: Threesome

by Tom of Finland
David Kordansky Gallery · 2023 · Softcover

A 168-page catalogue from David Kordansky Gallery that gathers three of its exhibitions of Tom of Finland's work, published in 2023 as a softcover.

The shows it records are Early Work 1944-1972, 100 Years and Pen and Ink 1965-1989, presented between 2015 and 2021 in collaboration with the Tom of Finland Foundation. Stuart Krimko edited the book and wrote its preface, and the art historian Richard Meyer and the artist and writer Brontez Purnell contribute essays. The design is by Polymode of Raleigh and Los Angeles. The book appeared alongside the gallery's 2023 exhibition Highway Patrol, Greasy Rider, and Other Selected Works.

Tom of Finland is the signature of the Finnish artist Touko Laaksonen (1920-1991), whose homoerotic drawings were first published in 1957 and who turned to full-time erotic art in 1973. The Tom of Finland Foundation preserves his work and has collaborated with the gallery on its exhibitions.

Notes

Identity: confirmed as the David Kordansky Gallery catalogue (2023). Not the 1970s Kake 6 [Threesome] (D.F.T. comic, 22pp) that AbeBooks also lists. ISBN NOT FOUND in gallery shop, gallery publications page, KARMA, Foundation page, Polymode (unresolved; check copyright page/barcode of the owned copy). Dimensions 11 1/2 x 8 1/2 in (KARMA) = ~29.2 x 21.6 cm H x W, consistent with portrait cover; a dealer says 22 x 30 cm (W x H?); left height_cm/width_cm unset because sources conflict and no ISBN-grade source. KARMA says hardcover; gallery, Foundation and dealer say softcover; cover shows a paperback-style black cover, went with Softcover. Publisher url is the gallery's own book page (gallery shop page also exists: https://shop.davidkordanskygallery.com/products/tom-of-finland-threesome). Cover 777x1042 cropped from 1200px publisher shop image. Mononym author as in book 1; authors[0].url is Foundation site.
