Kiki / 12 by Willy Vanderperre

Kiki / 12

by Willy Vanderperre
IDEA · 2017 · Unbound folded fanzine

Kiki / 12 is one part of a twelve-issue fanzine project by fashion photographer Willy Vanderperre, each installment built around a single model rather than a season or a brand.

Published by IDEA in London in 2017, this issue is devoted to Kiki Willems: an unbound, loose-folded publication of 23 pages that pairs extreme close-up portraiture, including a signature detail shot of the model's ear, with more conventional studio images. Vanderperre shot each of the twelve /12 issues in the same stripped-down format, treating the fanzine as a way to picture models as individuals outside of a fashion campaign's usual framing. Each edition was printed in a run of 300 copies.

Vanderperre, long associated with Raf Simons and stylist Olivier Rizzo, is one of contemporary fashion photography's defining image-makers; the /12 series, alongside subjects including Julia Nobis, Abbey Lee, and Natasha Poly, sits apart from his commercial work as a sustained, self-directed portrait project.
