Francesca Woodman
A monograph on the American photographer Francesca Woodman (1958–1981), published by Phaidon in 2006, with a review of her career by the art historian Chris Townsend.
Phaidon lists the book at 256 pages with 260 illustrations. Alongside Townsend's text it prints extracts and facsimile pages from Woodman's personal journals, edited and curated by her father, the artist George Woodman. The Woodman Family Foundation's bibliography also credits Betsy Berne. Phaidon later reissued the book in paperback, at 290 × 250 mm.
Woodman made most of her photographs in Providence, Rome and New York during the 1970s and died in 1981. Phaidon describes her as one of post-war photography's most original figures. Her own artist's book, Some Disordered Interior Geometries, appeared in 1981. She was born into an artistic family, and her father, George Woodman, edited the journal extracts in this book.
