Apartamento Issue 4
Autumn/Winter 2009-10, with Chloë Sevigny's New York City, Enzo Mari on the essence of beauty in Milan, Philip Crangi's studio and bachelor pad, and Ari Marcopoulos inside Sonic Youth's house.
The issue opens with New York City by Chloe Sevigny and Thea Slotover in Stella Sabin's room. Michael Bullock photographs the jeweller Philip Crangi in New York City, Tim Small talks to Enzo Mari in Milan, Simon Castets visits Cyril Duval's control tower in Tokyo, Juan Ignacio Moralejo meets Gustavo Di Mario in Buenos Aires and Misha Janette finds Sonya Park at home in Tokyo. Nacho Alegre photographs Grillo Demo, Jocko Weyland reports on China apartments, Nick Currie writes on post-materialism in Berlin and Emily King on Mark & Garrick. Marlene Marino contributes "Post-sex and relaxation", Elsa Fischer a collage feature, Bertjan Pot the free potato wallpaper, and Porzia Bergamasco family tales made in Italy. The materials study this time is drinking glasses.
Enzo Mari's interview is one of the magazine's early statements of intent: a designer talking about how things should be made and used rather than how they should look. Apartamento returned to him in issue 12, through Murray Moss's collection of his work.
