Elizabeth Peyton Gagosian Paris
This book from Gagosian and Rizzoli accompanies Elizabeth Peyton's first solo exhibition in Paris, a show of new paintings and drawings at Gagosian Gallery.
The exhibition ran at the gallery's rue de Ponthieu space from May 27 to July 28, 2011. The book presents the new work: portraits of artists past and present, some of them friends of Peyton's, among them Camille Claudel and Isa Genzken. Gagosian's exhibition text adds that she had begun to merge portraiture with still life, setting objects in patterned surroundings. Hans Ulrich Obrist contributes to the volume. It is a 120-page hardcover, published in April 2012.
Peyton was born in Connecticut in 1965 and studied at the School of Visual Arts in New York. She lives and works in New York and Berlin. Her work is in the collections of the Museum of Modern Art, the Whitney Museum of American Art and the Centre Pompidou, among others. Her solo exhibition Live Forever opened at the New Museum in 2008 and traveled to the Walker Art Center, Whitechapel Art Gallery and Bonnefanten Museum.
