Tomorrow's Man 5
The fifth volume of Jack Pierson's (b. 1960) Tomorrow's Man artist-book series is its most confessional, setting work by some of Pierson's favorite contemporary artists against diaristic texts by David Carrino documenting his experiences as a massage/sex worker in New York.
Published by Bywater Bros. Editions in 2020, edited and designed by Pierson with publisher Roger Bywater, the 164-page softcover gathers Dietmar Busse's enigmatic, almost occult drawings on photographs, David Dupuis's kaleidoscopic collages and Richard Tinkler's bright geometric abstractions alongside contributions from Jordan Wolfson, Gareth McConnell, Florence Derive, Samoa, Clément PJ Schneider, Janet Stein, Paula Stuttman, Jeff Davis and Pierson's own photographs. The volume appeared in five randomly distributed variant covers, with a limited hardcover edition of 75 including an original signed and numbered photograph.
Pierson, who emerged from the Boston School alongside Nan Goldin and Mark Morrisroe, works across photography, collage and found-letter word sculptures his work is held by the Metropolitan Museum, the Whitney and the Guggenheim. All six Tomorrow's Man volumes are held in this collection.
