One on One
The catalog for One on One, John Stezaker's (b. 1949) 2013 exhibition at the Tel Aviv Museum of Art: a set of previously unseen collages made over the preceding two years, the British artist's found images spliced with his signature single cut.
The clothbound volume reproduces 63 color plates, including ten images from The 3rd Person Archive (1976–present), Stezaker's decades-long collection of tiny incidental figures clipped from illustrated books. Published by Ridinghouse in association with the museum for the exhibition (January 18 – May 18, 2013), it carries a foreword by director Suzanne Landau, Irith Hadar's essay "Arresting Resistance," Dalit Matatyahu's "Tabula Rasa," and "The Third Meaning," a conversation between Stezaker, Christophe Gallois, and Daniel F. Herrmann.
Stezaker came to prominence among the British conceptualists of the 1970s and received the Deutsche Börse Photography Prize in 2012, following his 2011 Whitechapel Gallery retrospective. He is represented by The Approach, London, and Petzel Gallery, New York. This is the fourth Stezaker title in the library, alongside Silkscreens, Nude and Landscape, and the Rubell Family Collection volume.
