BUTT Magazine #27

by BUTT Magazine
BUTT Publications · 2014

Fall 2009, the "straight" issue, an exception to what the editors describe as BUTT's unwritten rule that the magazine be a hundred percent homo.

The cover is Angel Hernandez, a forty-three-year-old carpenter and father from Queens. Gert Jonkers puts uncomfortable sex questions to the Dutch photographer Lard. Adam Baran goes to the Bijou Theater in Chicago, photographed by Jacob Meehan, and interviews its owner Steven Toushin. Jeremy Scott interviews Tony Ward in Los Angeles, with portraits by Robin Black. Cesar Padilla interviews a regular at his Louisville bar; Andreas Larsson photographs Stockholm men who look gay and are not; Gabrielle Mangeri contributes twenty pictures of her boyfriend; and Bruce Benderson writes an homage to breasts. "Heterosexualisms" gathers short pieces by Felix Burrichter, Jane Knox, Michael Bullock, Adriano Sack and Xevi Muntané.

Seventy-four pages on pink paper. The editors conclude that after making the issue they are less sure than before what heterosexuality means.
