Drunk Brown House
Drunk Brown House is the book for Helen Marten's 2016 exhibition at the Serpentine in London, conceived as an artist's book and an exhibition catalogue in one.
The exhibition ran from 29 September to 20 November 2016 and set work never before shown in London beside new work made for the gallery. The book concentrates on key works of recent years. Brian Dillon contributes an essay on her practice, and Travis Jeppesen and Eileen Myles each wrote texts. Walther König published the paperback, which has 224 pages and 554 colour images.
Marten was born in Macclesfield in 1985. Her practice combines sculpture, text and screen-printed paintings and often plays with two- and three-dimensionality. She won the Turner Prize and the inaugural Hepworth Sculpture Prize in 2016. Her work is in the collections of Tate, the Museum of Modern Art, the Guggenheim and the Hirshhorn Museum, among others.
