Parrot Problems
Parrot Problems is the catalogue for Helen Marten's first institutional solo exhibition in Germany, held at the Fridericianum in Kassel.
The exhibition ran from 6 September to 2 November 2014. The catalogue followed in 2016, a 236-page softcover printed in colour, with essays by Diedrich Diederichsen and Johanna Burton. The artist's website lists Susanne Pfeffer as its editor. Marten designed forty of its pages herself and filled them with unique collages, which is why Greene Naftali's listing describes the book as close to an artist's book.
Marten was born in Macclesfield in 1985. She studied at Central Saint Martins in London and at the Ruskin School of Fine Art at the University of Oxford, and she works across sculpture, painting, video and writing. In 2016 she won the Turner Prize and the Hepworth Prize for Sculpture.
