Inside Thoughts

Inside Thoughts is the catalogue Mitchell-Innes & Nash produced in 2021 for a show of new paintings by Eddie Martinez, pairing plates of the work with a critical essay by Phyllis Tuchman.

The hardcover first edition reproduces the paintings from the exhibition and carries Tuchman's essay on the show. Martinez's paintings from this period continue his working method of building up oil, acrylic, and spray paint on linen in layered, gestural passes, alongside the looser mark-making he pursues on paper in sharpie, marker, and found materials.

Eddie Martinez works across painting, drawing, and sculpture, moving between raw, improvisational canvases and works on paper built up from studio debris and found scraps. Mitchell-Innes & Nash, the New York gallery behind this exhibition, has published Inside Thoughts as one of several catalogues documenting successive bodies of his work.
