More Drawings
More Drawings is the second volume of Eddie Martinez’s drawings trilogy from Triangle Books, reproducing more than three hundred works from his archive.
It continues Drawings (2017) with a selection running from 2005 to the year of publication, 2020. The publisher calls the arrangement a montage that sets works side by side without regard to date, so that the development of his approach and imagination can be read across it. The hardcover has 448 pages and 305 images and was issued in an edition of 1000. The third volume, Extra Drawings (2023), covers eighteen years of drawing and adds a conversation between Martinez and Claire Gilman, Chief Curator at the Drawing Center in New York.
For that third volume Triangle Books lists the motifs that recur across his drawing: sleepers, birds, flowers, blockheads, Fran the dog, tabletops, buflies, mandalas and Raid cans. Martinez’s website lists solo exhibitions at the Venice Biennale, where he represented San Marino in a show curated by Alison M. Gingeras, and at the Drawing Center, the Parrish Art Museum, the Yuz Museum in Shanghai, the Museum of Contemporary Art Detroit and the Bronx Museum. It gives his galleries as Galerie Max Hetzler and Timothy Taylor.
