Ed in Japan
"Ed in Japan" is a small photobook by Juergen Teller, issued as an appendix to Purple fashion magazine and numbered Purple Book #4. It collects black-and-white snapshots Teller took during a family trip to Japan.
The book is a quarto pamphlet in side-stapled wrappers, built entirely from informal, personal photography rather than fashion or commercial work. A short introductory text by Teller opens the book, describing his affection for the country.
Teller is a German-born photographer known for a snapshot-like, unglamorous style that he has applied equally to fashion campaigns and to personal and family subjects. The Purple Books series gave him and other artists a recurring outlet for this kind of intimate, off-duty work outside the studio.
