Purple Book
"Kolkata," known on its cover simply as the Juergen Teller Purple Book, is a photography supplement Purple Institute issued alongside Purple Fashion magazine's spring/summer 2014 issue and numbered Purple Book #20 in the series.
The stapled softcover pamphlet runs to roughly eighty pages, chiefly in color, and gathers Teller's photographs from a trip to Kolkata, India. As with other entries in the Purple Books line, the images run largely without captions or accompanying text, letting the sequence of pictures stand on its own.
Teller is known for a snapshot-like, deliberately unpolished style he brings to both fashion campaigns and personal travel photography. Purple Institute, run by Olivier Zahm, gave him and other artists recurring outlets like this one for work made outside commercial assignments.
