Wolfgang Tillmans: Burg

Wolfgang Tillmans' Burg is a 1998 monograph that gathers the German photographer's characteristically wide-ranging body of work into a single, deliberately unhierarchical sequence.

The book moves between portraits, still lifes, club and street photography, astronomical images, and near-abstract studies of light and material, edited and designed by Tillmans himself with an accompanying essay by critic David Deitcher. Published by Taschen in Cologne, it is a hardcover volume of 180 pages that continues Tillmans' practice of treating the photobook as its own curated space rather than a simple catalogue of prints.

Tillmans, who won the Turner Prize in 2000, has built his reputation on dissolving the boundary between documentary, fashion, and fine-art photography, and Burg sits alongside his other Taschen-era books as an early statement of that approach.
