Buch/Book No. 9
Buch/Book No. 9 is the ninth in Hans-Peter Feldmann's numbered book series, a survey that treats the artist's collections of found and made photographs as a body of work in their own right.
Published by Walther König in a bilingual German/English hardcover of 208 pages to accompany exhibitions at the Sprengel Museum in Hannover, the Landesgalerie in Linz and the Arnolfini in Bristol, the book moves without captions or hierarchy between anonymous snapshots, studio still lifes, appropriated pictures and Feldmann's own photographs, with essays by Inka Schube, Martin Clark and Martin Hochleitner.
Feldmann (1941-2023, Düsseldorf) spent five decades collecting, arranging and re-photographing ordinary images to strip them of their original context, treating curation itself as an artistic method. The numbered Buch/Book series, of which this is the ninth volume, remains one of the clearest statements of that practice, sitting alongside his better-known postcard and toy-collection projects.
