Foto is a small paperback that surveys about thirty years of Hans-Peter Feldmann’s work with found photographs.

Feldmann takes pictures from advertising, magazines and, sometimes, private albums, and arranges them into short narrative sequences in which something unexpected turns up in an ordinary scene. The arrangements do not settle into one obvious reading. Walther König published the book in Cologne in July 2007, with a foreword.

Feldmann (1941–2023) was a German artist who worked by collecting, ordering and re-presenting existing images. He began in 1968 with small handmade books titled Bild and Bilder (Picture, Pictures), each gathering reproductions of one kind of subject, and he went on presenting his material in books, postcards, posters and multiples.
