Dzama / Pettibon: Let us compare mythologies
Dzama / Pettibon: Let us compare mythologies is a staple-bound zine of drawings that Marcel Dzama and Raymond Pettibon made together, published for their 2016 exhibition at David Zwirner in London.
David Zwirner Books issued it while the show was on view in the gallery’s Upper Room, from 5 October to 12 November 2016. A fold-out poster of a mural-size work comes with it. The zine has 52 pages in full color, measures 8.5 by 11 inches, and was printed in an edition of 500.
It continues a series of collaborative zines. The artists began working together in the summer of 2015 by swapping drawings in the exquisite-corpse method, where each partner works from only part of a concealed drawing. The first zine appeared for Printed Matter’s New York Art Book Fair at MoMA PS1 in an edition of 200 and sold out on the first day. An expanded second edition, with 20 more drawings and a text by the poet Andrew Durbin, came out for their January 2016 exhibition Forgetting the Hand in New York.
