Raymond Pettibon (Contemporary Artists)
Phaidon Press
· 2001
· Paperback
Raymond Pettibon is the artist's volume in Phaidon's Contemporary Artists series, pairing critical writing on his work with excerpts of his own drawings and writing.
First published in 2001 and reprinted the following year, the 160-page paperback carries texts by Robert Storr, Dennis Cooper and Ulrich Loock, illustrated throughout in color and black-and-white, with a bibliography of Pettibon's exhibitions and writing.
Pettibon (b. 1957) came to prominence in the early 1980s southern California punk scene, drawing posters and album art mainly for SST Records bands, including the Black Flag logo, before moving into galleries and museums in the mid-1980s for ink drawings that mix American iconography with text.
