Purple Fashion Magazine Issue 1 (Volume III)

The first issue of Purple Fashion, the large-format third volume of the Paris magazine Olivier Zahm and Elein Fleiss had published since 1992, dated Spring/Summer 2004.

The fashion pages open with Paolo Roversi's "Purple People Spring-Summer 2004" and run through Terry Richardson at the Maritime Hotel, Hiromix's "Dragon Boys," Viviane Sassen's "Biotope," Marcelo Krasilcic's "Living Room" and "I'll Be Your Mirror" by Anuschka Blommers and Niels Schumm. Interviews take in the actor Michael Lonsdale, the artists Jeremy Blake and Olivier Mosset, the skater Tony Alva, the director Monte Hellman and the writer Chloé Delaume. A prose section titled "The Future" gathers Slavoj Žižek, Wolfgang Tillmans, François Laruelle, Gary Indiana and Mehdi Belhaj Kacem, and the interiors pages take in Dominique Gonzalez-Foerster's Chinese garden, Marina Faust on Fassbinder's world and Noritoshi Hirakawa on picturing architecture.

Purple began in 1992 as Purple Prose, an anti-fashion quarterly run out of Paris. The 2004 relaunch kept the artists and the philosophers and added a full fashion apparatus, and it set the shape the magazine has kept ever since.
